Rye Baking Classes
Seeded pumpernickel, rye loaf & sourdough crackers
You will get to mill your own grain and learn how to shape and bake this very special loaf. You will also make a simple rye loaf which you can whip up anytime with the simplest of ingredients. Finally you will learn how to use some sourdough discard to make the most delicious sourdough rye crackers.
10am - 2:30pm
Scandinavian Rye Class:
You will have a warm welcome to Kitty Witch Bakehouse. Situated in Paula’s garden you will start your morning off with a fresh coffee or tea and a little homemade treat before embarking on this enjoyable, fun and knowledgeable day of all things Scandi. Answering any personal questions you have along the way.
10am: Welcome and an introduction to the benefits of Rye for your health
10:30am: Mill your own grain understand the benefits of this and make your delicious Seeded Rye
11:30am: Mill some more flour for the next simple Rye loaf, filled with Caraway or Fennel and Learn the art of shaping Rye in tins
12pm: We’ll move on to making our Sourdough crackers dough before having some refreshments
12:45pm: We’ll look at our loaves and consider whether they are ready to go into the oven, understand the best way to bake Ryes before moving on to rolling out our crackers
1:40pm: Bake Cracker and check our ryes
2pm: taste all the delicious bakes with a light seasonal lunch.
2:30pm Take your Seeded ryes, Simple rye loaf & Crackers home. Learning how to store them to keep fresh.
